Calamity and Peace

Is television for entertainment or to scare me to death? I can't believe what is on T.V. these days. I first watched Oprah and it was about child porn and child molesters and of course this is a devastating issue! I just got done watching ABC World News and WOW, this country is suffering in so many ways. The Lehman Brothers company just filed bankruptcy causing the stock market to go way down, Hurricane Ike, the never ending political banter, and a major train crash in California that left 25 dead and several injured. I just traveled by train! So in short, I am anxious of the future.
On a more positive note, I am very excited for General Conference, it is always refreshing to hear spiritual leaders talk of peace and true happiness. I am so glad I have the gospel, especially in the times we live in. I know that true happiness comes from the gospel and from family.
I found an article, in a past issue of the Ensign, that I thought pertained to this post, click here to read it. And of course, I had to throw in a couple pictures of what brings me pure happiness. Olivia is giving Ian loves.

I love my silly boy and precious girl!!!

I agree. It is sometimes hard to see the positive. Thank goodness for good family and friends.
BTW, I am reading The Kite Runner. I can't read it for very long periods of time, it makes me sad. Tell me I should keep going (I hate not finishing a book.)

I flipped on Oprah and had to turn it off shortly after because I could handle listening to it! The world is a scary place but I'm so glad we Know where to get peace:)

I know what you mean. The stock market thing is pretty scary. I saw on Yahoo news: "Should people clear their bank accounts?" I hope it doesn't come to that. I forgot to watch Oprah, I started writing my talk, and totally spaced it. I bet it would have made me scared anyways.

I hear ya sister. I want to get a bunch of moms together to all pitch in and home school our kids so they still get to interact with other children but aren't thrown into the ever more secular progressive public system!!!

i had to turn Oprah off and I cried about it later to Chris! It is such a scary world out there. I am excited for General Conference as well, i love this time of year. I am so thankful we get it twice/yr. Chris and I are usually addicted to the news/politics but sometimes it is nice to just have the news off. we came up with this great idea to have the good news channel where there is nothing but good things and service that people are doing and show the more "positive" side of life all day long. i think people would tune in and it would definitely make them feel better about the world. it's sad only the bad stuff gets covered.
