What are your opinions on going private? I have wondered why it is a big deal to go private I mean strangers see you everyday, what is different about a stranger seeing you on your blog versus the grocery store?
I had mine on private for like a week, then people would email or call all the time saying I forgot to add them and it just got to be too big of a pain! but now part of me thinks I should go back to private...So I don't have any real opinions on it other than its such a pain trying to get everyones emails. hopefully LIN will identify her/himself.
It was a bit of a pain at first, but worth it for me. Although my situation is a little different...but I do like knowing exactly who is reading my blog. One downside is that you can only have up to 100 readers.
Cordie, this is Marie Stephens Edwards, it's been so long. Juliette found my blog and I found yours through her blog. So much has happened since being roommates at Ricks. You have an adorable family! Crazy that you have two kids now! Looks like you are doing well! I've gone back and forth about going private as well, but it is so fun to get back in contact with someone you haven't seen in a long time.
I don't know what the big deal is about going private, but I'm new to blogging... We miss you guys so much, KayBree has a birthday invitation for Ian. She was sad when I told her he couldn't come.:(
If you don't want to go private, but are a little worried, just be careful what you put on your blog. Avoid really personally info (i.e. address, last name, social security #, location of each birthmark, ya know, that sort of thing. ;) ) Maybe that's not good enough. I don't know! I would consider it a bit more if it were easy to get in touch with private bloggers. Maybe I just don't know the secret!
Dido to what Doni said, I am just careful of content. I try not to reveal our location or where kids go to school, or parks we visit regularly. Also I stray from content that would lure a predator, kids in the tub or in swimsuits. Its sad that I have to think about this kind of thing, but it's the world today. Mostly I think it is what you are comfortable with. My little traffic feed helps to get an idea who is coming on and how often. I hate the idea of going private! Hope this helps.
yeah i totally know what you are talking about; someone can easily stalk you from the grocery store or follow you just as easily as they can blog stalk. well ours isn't private but we don't have any little chillens and that is really who you want to protect. but i think as long as you are careful about what you post, you are ok. on a side note, because your blog isn't private, anyone from anywhere can have access to the pictures you post and do what they want with them. example: photoshop your head on some bikini clad body and then post it to the internet for ALL to see. haha! if you plan on running for public office, you might want to consider going private :):):)
I know what you mean about the whole store thing but this is just one thing that I can control. And I believe that I should do what ever I can to perfect my family with the things that I can control. The one down fall is that you can only invite 100 people to view it. Which I am at 84. But there are some that I am not all that close to that I could uninvite. Good luck.
Hey Cordie! It's been too long... I've been out of this blogging thing since I had the baby. Can you believe I "FINALLY" got my little GIRL! I was shocked!
Anyways...How's it going? Looks like you had some fun in Detroit.
I went private because my husbands ex-girlfriend decided to stock our blog! FUN TIMES! I just like to being private too, so I know that "crazy's" aren't snaking pics of my kids and doing something "sick & wrong" with them! :0)
Cordie~ i just recently made our blog private. It scares me to think of all the sick crazy's in the world and what they could do with our pics, too. The downfall though is not having everyones e-mail so I can invite them to our blog. Send me an e-mail at twinsmom06@yahoo.com so I can invite you to our blog. I just recently updated, finally. Do you have e-mails for Jade, Katie, Bec or Tami. How is everything going?
I don't buy into going private. I think that as long as you limit the sizes of your photos, you should be fine. Plus, there are a half-dozen people we knew in High School who have private blogs that I would probably glance at just to see what they're up to, but I don't because it's private. I don't want to send an email to a borderline-acquaintance, that I'm only borderline interested in knowing about, I'll just move on. I say keep it open. Use Google Analytics to check on who is visiting, and don't worry too much. Keep it open, I say. It's not weird to have an open family blog in this day and age.
I have really liked going private. There was a whole story on the news the other day. check it out:http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=4699330
I have always been careful about what I would post. With no worries.
But i have a wild imagination! lol... I do not like the idea that any pedifile who might "happen" upon my blog, can have access to pictures of my daughter....That is why I went private. And since it is a only a family & friends blog I figured it would be a good idea. I really dont have any Forums etc. I can open up another blog for that. :-)
Hey well I went private after seeing that sickos copy and paste your photos on their stuff to do whatever they want with it. If I had absolutely no photos of my girls then I wouldn't be private. I had some strange traffic too. But being private is kind of a bummer.
Well here's my two cents, My older brother who works for Cache County Police in their computer department told me when I first signed up to go private. That is all he said to me! Which usually means theirs a pretty good reason to private. So of the things I heard him talk about that had happened in Logan made me glad that I was leaving. Now I am in place quite a bit bigger. IT's been really fun to run into people I haven't talked to in years!
it is a pain at first to add all of your readers and what not but the difference is that people who are friends of people and friends of those friends actually do look at strangers blogs and gather your info. I just do not want anyone scoping out my kids and I want to be able to put on my blog any info I want to without worry!
